FAQ

What is Kindred?

Kindred is a promise-based productivity companion that helps you choose what truly matters for the day. Instead of giving you an endless to-do list, Kindred helps you focus on a small number of meaningful promises and reflect on how you showed up.

How are promises different from normal tasks?

Tasks are things you could do. Promises are the few things you intentionally choose to commit to. Kindred is designed to make your day feel more focused, realistic, and personal instead of overwhelming.

Do I need to complete every task?

No. Kindred is not about doing everything. It helps you focus on the promises you chose as most important. You can still write down other tasks, but your promises are what matter most for your daily reflection.

What is a promise window?

A promise window is the time period you give yourself to work on your promises. It helps Kindred understand when you planned to show up, while still keeping the system flexible and personal.

Why does Kindred rest after a promise window?

Kindred treats focus as something that needs recovery. Rest helps reinforce that productivity should not mean nonstop work. Showing up matters, but so does pausing.

What happens if I miss a promise?

Missing a promise does not erase your progress. Kindred may reflect it through your companion’s state or journal, but the goal is not to punish you. It is meant to help you notice patterns and rebuild self-trust over time.

Can I change my promises?

Kindred may limit promise editing to protect your intentions and prevent constant replanning. This helps promises feel more meaningful instead of becoming another flexible to-do list.

Can I add more promises?

Depending on your settings, you may be able to choose how many promises you want for the day. Kindred works best when you keep promises realistic and focused.

Are my promises stored online?

No account is required. Your promises, journal entries, companion details, settings, and app preferences are stored locally on your device.

Does Kindred require an account?

No. Kindred is designed to work without an account. Your experience is kept simple, private, and local to your device.

Does Kindred sync across devices?

Kindred currently stores your data locally on your device. This means your promises and journal may not automatically sync across multiple devices.

Will deleting the app remove my data?

Deleting Kindred from your device may remove locally stored promises, journal entries, companion details, and preferences. Make sure you are okay with losing this data before uninstalling.

What does my companion’s bond mean?

Bond reflects how consistently you have been showing up for the promises you chose. It is not a score of your worth or productivity. It is simply a gentle reflection of trust, consistency, and presence.

Why did my companion’s state change?

Your companion may respond to your recent promise activity, missed windows, completed promises, rest periods, or patterns over time. Its state is meant to feel reflective rather than judgmental.

Is Kindred a habit tracker?

Kindred is not a traditional habit tracker. Instead of tracking the same habit every day, it helps you choose what matters now and build a healthier relationship with commitment, focus, and follow-through.

Is Kindred a to-do list?

Kindred can help you manage tasks, but it is not meant to be an endless to-do list. Its main focus is helping you choose a few important promises and follow through with intention.
